A sonic hacker breaks into a virtual server in this cyberpunk-themed music video for the European artist Lewsor, directed by John V. Knowles.
In December of 2009, John was commissioned to direct his original concept for the song "Musical Pirate" for Lewsor's upcoming album "No Error." The commission came through Radar Music Videos, a site that connects independent and small label artists with directors who pitch ideas for their music. this was John's first commission through the site, and it turned out to be a very rewarding experience. Although the budget was limited, John was able to capture the footage he needed to complete his vision with the help of DP Bryan Koss and friend Dominique Brown. Dancer Kristofer Cross lent his unique movement style to the character of the hacker, as the UK-based Lewsor was unable to appear in the video himself. The post production process involved a great deal of FX work, as every shot in the final edit required several passes of compositing, motion tracking, particles and color correction. Despite the technical and logistical challenges, John decided to complete all the FX work himself. "I wanted to push myself as an artist to see if I could take my skills to the next level. I wanted to see how close I could come to realizing my vision for this video, and that only seemed possible if there was one voice and one set of hands doing the work." With additional input from Lewsor ("a great collaborative partner") the video was locked in March 2010 and launched on several websites including YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion among many others. The video has been received with great acclaim and enthusiasm from fans of cyberpunk and electronica alike. Both Lewsor and his label, Audiotrauma, have been delighted by the response to the single and the video. Lewsor said it was "an ultimate pleasure working with John, he has great ideas, passionate about what he is doing, very open to suggestions, and gives his best until the end. Absolute respect!"
